The Raven Dropped His Cheese
The Raven Drops his Cheese is a story of two Alsatian brothers who had joined the French Army prior to 1939. When France capitulated they were separated. One, Chris deserted and escaped to occupied France where he was hired as an interpreter by the civil control of the occupation forces, The other brother, Sépi was recruited to work for the Vichy government and involved in the return of French prisoners. With two other young men he managed to escape from Vichy France by crossing the Pyrenees into Spain where, with the help of an American reporter, all three reached England where they were trained by the Allied intelligence organizations. Sepi was sent back to France to lead a resistance group. Through his contacts he discovers that a member of his net sent to England for training was actually a German Agent. After his net was partially destroyed he joined an associated group close to his home town and was able to rescue his mother who had been arrested by the French Milice. As a French officer Chris returned to his home town after its liberation, but was accused of collaboration with the enemy and faced a court martial. Fortunately the testimony of a priest and of his brother saved him.
